This paper documents the tremendous improvements that have been made to children's health as a result of medical advances over the past century.  At the same time, it highlights the significant socio-economic and racial disparities that remain despite these advances, as well as the increase in risk-taking behaviour among adolescents.  It concludes that much progress still needs to be made.
