This paper discusses fetal alcohol syndrome, its prevalence in Canada, its effects, and the characteristics of mothers at risk for, or with, FAS infants. It also examines the effects of maternal prenatal drug use, and the best practices for intervention and prevention methods and programs dealing with FAS and maternal substance use.
