Using data from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, this brief discusses links between food insecurity among young families, meaning an unstable source of nutritious food, and obesity in young children. The authors suggest that food insecurity influences negative parenting behaviour and depression, affecting children’s diet. The authors call for further research and a greater attention to public policies that affect food insecurity.
