This paper examines the effects of poor child health on the employment of unwed mothers after welfare reform in the United States.  It finds that having a child in poor health reduces both the likelihood of employment and the number of hours worked.  The authors suggest that children's health problems may have a negative effect on family resources, which means that the children who most need health care are the least likely to have access to such services.
