This report examines the financial costs of children for two-parent and single-parent families in the United States in 1995. To estimate the cost, it looks at expenditures for housing, food, transportation, clothing, health care, education, child care, and miscellaneous goods and services.  It finds that a single child from a two-parent household cost between $7,610 and $8,710 in 1995.
