This study examines violent content in popular PG-13 rated movies from 1999 and 2000 to determine the potential negative influence on youth. Using a newly developed tool for evaluation, the authors determined which characters were committing acts of violence, the circumstances that precipitated violence and the resulting consequences. The authors found substantial violence in 90% of the films, and much of it was framed within comedic circumstances.
