This study finds that children living with single or cohabiting mothers have poorer developmental outcomes than children living with married parents or with a single mother who lives with her parents.  It also finds that 11% of the children surveyed had experienced at least one transition between types of living arrangements over a three-year period, and that these transitions tended to be associated with poorer child outcomes.
