This paper investigates trends in non-marital childbearing and related information on sexual activity and behaviour. It discusses possible causes of unwed motherhood, including welfare reform, individual and family characteristics, and neighbourhood influences, and also looks at potential consequences of non-marital childbearing. It addresses paths to non-marital childbearing, and various prevention programs and methods, including sex education and contraceptive services.
