This article discusses the fluctuations in fertility rates in Canada between 1974-1994 and pays specific attention to the increase in teenage pregnancies and out of wedlock births. It suggests that the decisions of women to have fewer children and to wait until later in life to give birth are being influenced by socio-economic factors such as education, employment, and financial stability.
