Creation of the Family Index was inspired by the expressed need of legislators and their staff to obtain easily accessible data on family matters. The Index also serves other interested parties such as the media, educators, students and members of the general public.

The project is spearheaded by the Institute of Marriage and Family Canada. Technical support has been provided by Computronix.

The Family Index has partnered with the Heritage Foundation’s Family and Society Database to collaborate on content creation.
